Porthpean House is a beautiful rambling country house in an extraordinary setting with luxurious gardens and lawns above the sheltered south coast of Cornwall. It has been the beloved home of five generations of the Petherick family, from the early 19th century onwards and now to Martin Petherick who has opened it up for a new beginning as the perfect retreat for holidays and house parties by the sea.
The house has been used to a constant stream of family visitors over the years including Martin's siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, running in and out of the rooms and up and down to the beach. It has played host to family weddings, celebrations and many anniversaries during the 30 years when Martin's parents, Christopher and Charlotte lived here.
In 2012 the whole house became a film set when Richard Curtis, his family and crew turned up for the summer to film the romantic comedy About Time…….where the dining room was turned into the father's office/den and Charlotte Petherick's bedroom wardrobe was turned into a time travelling tardis. Here is the trailer for the film, which captures the exceptional beauty and atmosphere of the house so perfectly.
